SANTA
CLARA, Calif. (1/22/01) - Informal Software, Inc., a leading
provider of innovative software solutions that extend the usability
of PC and Mac-based communication and collaboration applications,
today announced that it is shipping the latest version of its award-winning
enotate software to meet the growing needs of business professionals
by adding the electronic equivalent of "pen and paper"
into daily computing. Based on the initial positive reception of
enotate software, additional capabilities have been added to enotate
v1.2, including support for Microsoft Excel and the Handspring Visor
to expand the functionality of popular corporate applications that
optimize the use of handheld devices. As a means of leveraging the
widespread standardization on a range of Palm-based handheld devices
by corporations, Informal Software's enotate v1.2 accommodates the
changing needs of businesses by providing a critical new software
tool that enables enhanced communication and collaboration both
in and out of the office.
"Informal
Software's newest enotate v1.2 software addresses the significant
market need for a more natural and efficient means of interacting
with the PC," said J. Gerry Purdy, Ph.D., president and CEO
of Mobile Insights, a market research firm in Mountain View, CA.
"As handheld devices continue to gain acceptance as vital tools
in the corporate enterprise and among consumers, the need to electronically
communicate creative ideas and information in a natural, intuitive
manner plays a pivotal role in maximizing users' efficiency. By
incorporating sketching and annotation into the everyday computing
experience, Informal Software has created an entirely new category
of software that is fundamentally changing the computing habits
of both consumers and business professionals, while uniquely employing
the handheld device as a direct, real-time input/output device."
New
features of enotate v1.2 include support for Microsoft Excel and
the Handspring Visor, full color support for the Palm IIIc, gray-scale
support for the Palm Vx and m100, "slide show" support
and control of "auto power off" in PowerPoint. Further,
enotate v1.2 supports the Palm connected organizer, Handspring Visor,
IBM WorkPad, TRG Pro, Microsoft Word 97/2000, Microsoft PowerPoint
97/2000, Microsoft Excel 2000 and digital images in common formats
such as JPEG, BMP, TIFF and PCX. Informal Software's enotate v1.2
is available for $69.99 from www.informal.com, and for existing
customers, an upgrade that installs all the new features and functionalities
of enotate v1.2 onto the original enotate platform is available
for a discounted price of $14.99. Informal Software also has plans
to release additional versions of enotate in Q1 2001 that support
new applications and other popular platforms, including the PocketPC/Windows
CE and Macintosh platforms.
INFORMAL
SOFTWARE ANSWERS CORPORATE COMMUNICATION CHALLENGES WITH PC "FOURTH
PERIPHERAL"
As
corporations continue to standardize on handheld devices like the
Palm connected organizer, a broad base of business professionals
will begin to look for innovative technology tools that will help
them approach communication within their careers in a more intuitive
and efficient manner. Informal Software is committed to developing
products that are tailored to the inevitable communication and collaboration
challenges that occur due to the limited tools available in the
market today. By adding new features such as Excel and Handspring
support, Informal Software developed an innovative software solution
that simplifies PC computing with key corporate applications by
making the process 100% electronic though a new "fourth peripheral."
In
addition to allowing free-hand sketching/drawing and annotating
or marking-up of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents, and standard
graphics files, enotate v1.2 enables business professionals to add
questions/comments or editing marks to Excel documents, thus increasing
productivity, enhancing communication and allowing users to take
full advantage of the devices they have at their disposal. Given
Informal Software's goal of becoming platform independent, support
of the USB port as part of the popular Handspring Visor will increase
the appeal of enotate v1.2 among business professionals. Informal
Software recognized the advantage of supporting the high-speed USB
port in addition to the standard serial port, since graphics, digital
photos and the general performance of the application are enhanced
with the use of this port.
"Our
latest software application takes us one step closer to solving
many of the typical productivity and collaboration challenges that
companies of all sizes face in today's disparate market," said
Ian Cullimore, president and CEO of Informal Software. "With
expanded support for Excel and the Handspring Visor, enotate v1.2
illustrates our commitment to deliver compelling business tools
that enable effective electronic communication and provide a broad
range of viable solutions for business professionals that bring
true electronic writing into the PC computing equation. Furthermore,
in the upcoming quarter, Informal Software plans to introduce a
host of products that will allow virtually every computer user to
benefit from our innovative electronic writing application."
